Artistas cantan para los niños

MéXICO Con
un despliegue de artistas de primera se celebró
el sábado uno de los recitales masivos más
grandes en la historia de la región, “El
concierto por los niños”, una iniciativa
de la Fundación América Latina en Acción
Solidaria (ALAS), simultáneamente en Ciudad de
México y Buenos Aires.
En México, el recital arrancó con el español
David Bisbal, quien cantó cuatro temas ante cientos
de miles de personas que a pesar de la lluvia abarrotaron
la plaza central conocida como Zócalo, en la
capital.
En Buenos Aires, la cantante colombiana Shakira cerró
con broche de oro el espectáculo que congregó
a figuras como Mercedes Sosa, Alejandro Sanz, Gustavo
Cerati, Paulina Rubio, Pedro Aznar y Wyclef Jean.
“Juntos estamos cambiando la historia de la solidaridad
en Latinoamérica”, manifestó Shakira
ante las 150,000 personas congregadas según los
organizadores.
El momento cumbre en Argentina llegó cuando los
artistas en el escenario se unieron con quienes actuaban
en México para hacerle coro a Sanz y su tema
“No es lo mismo”.
Ricky Martin dio un espectáculo vibrante en el
que se combinaron instrumentos de viento y sus acostumbrados
bailes con mucho movimiento de caderas.
“Cuando solicitamos ayuda de los Gobiernos de
cada uno de nuestros países necesitamos hacer
alianzas”, agregó durante su acto, que
constó de cinco canciones.
La reunión de grandes figuras de la canción
busca la atención de Gobiernos y organizaciones
civiles sobre la necesidad de atajar la pobreza en la
que viven los niños de este continente.
El recital, que será grabado para un disco compacto
y DVD, llegó a millones por televisión
abierta y cable a través de un acuerdo con Televisa
y sus filiales, que lo difundían. Además,
se transmitió por Internet.
La fundación reunió 200 millones de dólares
que irán a programas de educación, salud
y nutrición a niños pobres, se informó
el jueves.

Artists sing for the kids

A-list artists
came together on Saturday for one of the
biggest shows in the history of Latin
America for “The Concert for the
Children” concert, initiated by
the Fundación América Latina
en Acción Solidaria (ALAS), simultaneously
in Mexico City and Buenos Aires.
In Mexico, the show kicked off with David
Bisbal from Spain, who performed four
songs before hundreds of thousands of
people who, despite the rain, packed into
the capital’s central plaza known
as Zócalo.
In Buenos Aires, Columbian singer Shakira
topped off the show that brought together
figures like Mercedes Sosa, Alejandro
Sanz, Gustavo Cerati, Paulina Rubio, Pedro
Aznar and Wyclef Jean.
“Together we are changing history
of solidarity in Latin America,”
declared Shakira before 150,000 people,
according to organizers.
The climax of the show in Argentina came
when all the artists came together on
stage with those performing in Mexico
to sing “No es lo mismo” with
Sanz.
Ricky Martin gave a vibrant performance
that combined wind instruments and his
dance moves his fans are accustomed to
seeing – a lot of hip movement.
“When we solicit help of the governments
of each one of our countries, we need
to make alliances,” he added during
his performance that consisted of five
songs.
This reunion of big names in music hoped
to grab the attention of governments and
civil organizations for the need to put
a stop to the poverty in which the children
of this continent live in.
The show, which was recorded for a live
album and a DVD, arrived to millions on
free television and cable by agreement
reached between Televisa and its affiliates.
It was also broadcast over the internet.
The foundation collected 200 million dollars
that will go to educational, nutritional
and health programs to poor children,
as was announced on
May 15.
